The NHS Department of Health recommendations for adults over the 65 years, is moderate activity for 150 minutes or vigorously active for 75 minutes each week.
Older adults at risk of falls, such as people with weak legs, poor balance and some medical conditions should do exercises to improve balance and co-ordination on at least two days a week.
Motivation & Co. worked in partnership with NHS Hertfordshire to develop a falls prevention programme specific to dementia clients.
We were under the GPS scheme (General Practitioners Scheme) given 10 homes to deliver the programme to which had the most call outs from GP’s. Our report & assessments showed that there was a 66% increase in our clients balance, muscle strength and joint flexion.
The report also showed that the number of GP call outs over the 10 week period had reduced by more than 55% if all call outs resulted in a hospitalisation this gave a saving in excess of £78,000 to the NHS budgets in a 10 week period.
What is the balance & strength Evaluation Assessment programme?
