Reflecting on 2018Tuesday, 13 November 2018
With the end of the year coming in we start to reflect on what we have achieved throughout 2018. How we have spent our time and generally what we’ve been up to.
Within Motivation & Co. we have had an extremely busy year.
We have delivered 6 training days around the country, to managers, activity organisers, care staff and directors. Delivering the ‘Purpose of Meaningful Activities’ workshops, promoting well being and the benefits of different activities and the purpose behind those activities in order to meet the standards of CQC, but also to ensure we are all delivering the best care to our loved ones, providing the very best in dignity and care that is deserved for our loved ones. To promote the importance of activities and well being and the role of the activities, wellbeing and lifestyle coordinators, ensuring they have a forum of discussion and a network of support in their role.
This year, Motivation & Co. also merged with their sister company Visual Communication Aid, as a one stop shop for all your activity & sign posting needs. Visual Communication Aid or VCA provides visual communication aids for those that cannot always communicate verbally, whether that be a language barrier or the need for additional assistance. Through our Motivation & Co. website you can now purchase these aids direct through ourselves and make payment of Motivation & Co. invoices online through our website too.
In the run up to our 20th Birthday in June, we had lots of celebrations going on. Including our contributions and efforts in a Family Fun Day within our local community raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, which collectively raised over £4000. There are pictures online, on our social media and in our previous news articles of the frivolities of the day, which include a duck race, bouncy castles, a soaking in the stocks and lots and lots of cake.
We held our own ‘Bake Off’ style, cake creations and asked everyone to send us pictures and stories of themselves and the residents making cakes and buns, either within our Motivation & Co. sessions or between our visits. We had some amazing pictures come through and even Howard Middleton himself from ‘The Great British Bake Off’ got involved and made some delicious Carrot & Orange Cupcakes for us to taste within head office. Take a look at the fabulous creations either in our previous ‘news’ stories or on our social media pages.
We asked our clients to send in testimonials and nominations throughout their sessions over the past 20 years and had some fabulous stories come through. We then sent out gifts of appreciation to our top 6 stories and nominations, including one from 101 year old Freda, who still loves participating in the Motivation & Co. session each week.
Throughout the year our Motivational Therapists have got involved in a number of events with ourselves and with our homes and clients, dressing up, celebrating, face painting and attending open days. As a customer of Motivation & Co. we really do 'come on board' and work alongside your home and interact as part of your infrastructure but we couldn't do this without our amazing Motivational Therapists, that bring the passion and enthusiasm to your sessions each day and our lovely homes that allow us sometimes bring that little bit of crazy on occasion and going with it, to bring the best for our clients.
This year also brought the start of a lifetime of happiness for one of our lovely ladies within our head office team. Terri, our regional manager got married this year. There’s a comical and well-fitting, albeit not completely factual story about her and her jovial ways within our news articles if you want a read. What was completly factual was that it was an absolutely fantastic day. She looked amazing as she always does and the wedding was brilliantly unique, to both her and her husband and their new family and life together.
Motivation & Co. have been nominated for and have been finalists in a number of awards this year.
Starting the year, we were nominated for the Independent Business of the year award 2018 at the Yorkshire Choice Awards, this was vote led and we were beaten by an equally fabulous ‘Mix n Twist’ cocktail making and mobile outside bar. Which we can hand on heart, say they are brilliant. Having had them cater at events and them also catering Terri’s wedding, having tasted all the cocktails they had to offer, they were worthy winners.
We were nominated for The Outstanding Contribution Award, at The Learning Disability and Autism awards 2018. We were chosen as finalists and went to lunch with some of the most amazing people working within this industry. We are truly blessed to work alongside, some amazingly dedicated and beautiful souls.
Elaine Everett our Founder and Managing Director was nominated for a Lifetime achievement award at the Dementia Care Awards, for her work over the past 20 years throughout the care industry, her continuous work and research into providing the very best therapeutic activities for our loved ones. Elaine attended a finalist dinner with some amazing other leaders in care and the winner was announced at a black tie event in Brighton, where Yvonne Newbold won, with her 35 years working within the Care Industry at Great Ormond street hospital and alongside parents, writing her book ‘The Special Parent Handbook’, a fabulous and well deserved winner.
So, as we look back at 2018 and all we have achieved and who we have shared in our experiences, we look forward to all that we can accomplish in 2019. Preparing our upcoming diaries for the work to be done and our goals to achieve, we invite you to join us and share in the love and passion and follow our work, either through our website, newsletters or social media.
We wish you all the very best over the upcoming celebrations and as the weather gets colder, a happy and healthy new year.
All the very best,
Zoe and all the team at Motivation & Co. UK LTD
